Block perimeter buildings feature block walls and jambs rather than the more common steel construction. With the exception of firewalls if required, the interior of a block perimeter building is steel construction similar to a typical Trachte building.
These buildings offer developers a strategy for development when local zoning or planning commissions require masonry walls. A wide variety of blocks are available through local suppliers, giving developers a wide range of design options.
While this design offers a premium appearance, it does have drawbacks. Due to the weight of these structures, floating slab foundations may not be used. Typical Trachte buildings with steel jambs are easier to replace if damaged, while repairing a block jamb will be more labor intensive.
