In downtown Cincinnati, a vacant Dillard’s department store was converted into a multi-story self-storage facility, branded and managed as a CubeSmart. Utilizing the 200,000 square foot, three-story building, a fully climate-controlled site with a variety of unit sizes was created. Lots of demo work was required as the existing escalators needed to be replaced with freight elevators and new structure. The corridor system features matte black roll-up doors, overhead horizontal wire mesh, bright white rigid rib corridor panels and diamond plate corner guards and kick plates.
Storage units were built on the 2nd and 3rd levels, while retail fills the 1st level. There’s ground access on the 2nd level to the storage office. The long side of the building has large windows that face the busy road, showcasing the storage units that live inside. This conversion has transformed the community’s wasted space into a lively commodity that is well-lit with 24/7 video surveillance.
